Fishing Reports - Fly Fishing on the Olympic Peninsula

The Dog days

Aug 4, 2008

SO there are some Coho, some steelhead, some left over kings and some cutthroat around. Despite being August, the water levels are more like late June here in Forks. I would probably spend most of my time with a long light leader and a dry fly at this point. A grease liner or something like that. If you want to go right to the fish the Callawa or Sol Duc hatcheries are loaded with very picky heavily fished over steelhead. If you head way up river you will find the fish scarcer, and far dumber. Your pick.
The picture is from the Hoh yesterday, I don’t know how many are in here right now but its at a beautiful level, no one is fishing it and I seem to be able to find one or two a day. You will notice the cunning and subtle add placement for SCOTT and Clacka craft, maybe some day they will notice too and put my pics on there sites.
